ASMI - THE PRIDE OF INDIA

Machine Gun is a rapid-firing, rifle long-barrel auto loading firearm designed for sustained direct fire with fully powered cartridge.Other automatic firearms such as assault Rifles and automatic Rifles are really designed more for unleasing short burst rather than continuous firepower and not consider a machine gun. A machine Pistol is a self loading pistol capable of burst fire and fully automatic. It can also be used to describe a stalkless handgun style. 

ASMI-INDIGENOUS MACHINE PISTOL

The Pune based facility of the Defence research and development organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army's mhow based infantry school have recently developed India's first indigenous 9mm machine pistol named Asmi which means pride. The pistol has production cost less than 50,000 each.DRDO and army design this indigenous gun with the help of 3D printing and prototyping of various parts including triggers component made up of metal 3D printing with a record time of 4 months. The gun is similar to german machine Gun Uzi. It was designed by Lt. Colonel prasad bansod of the army mhow based infantry school.

 LIGHTER VERSION OF ASMI

Asmi is a subcompact version of the weapon which is about 3kg. DRDO & army is trying to make a lighter version of the asmi which is less than 1.5 kg the weapon operates on a simple blowback principle and has a 33 round capacity magazine,a range of hundred metre and rate of 600 rounds per minute whereas Asmi has 500 rounds per minute. 

The advantage of making Asmi lighter will help in the rough terrain and mountain areas where carry of heavy weapons is quite difficult. It is helpful for the soldiers working with night vision technology to lift light weapons at night. This gun is not used in frontline services, it is designed for use as a second line personal weapon for tanks and aircraft use and in close combat situations like counter terrorist operations and room interventions in confined space like worship in Merchant vessels and by the VIP protection forces.
